Our Contributor Standard

We Only Publish What We’d Be Proud to Stand Behind

Gladewick was built on a specific belief: that the best home and garden advice comes from people who have actually done the work — not from writers who research from a desk, not from AI, and not from generalists who cover every topic equally.

Every article on our Site is written by a named expert with verifiable, hands-on professional experience. Our kitchen design writer has personally overseen 250 kitchen renovations. Our lawn care specialist studied turfgrass science at Ohio State. Our electrician volunteer-teaches home repair every other Saturday.

If you have that kind of real-world expertise — and you can communicate it clearly to homeowners who want to learn — Gladewick is a platform worth writing for. We offer named authorship, a genuine audience, and a publication you can point to with pride.

What Gladewick is: A trusted home and garden content publication serving American homeowners. Expert-written, peer-reviewed, and built for readers who are actively planning projects, making purchases, and looking for guidance they can act on.

What Gladewick is not: A platform for generalist freelance writers, AI-assisted content, thinly researched articles, keyword-stuffed SEO content, or promotional writing disguised as editorial. We will spot these and decline them — sometimes at the pitch stage, always at the review stage.

Gladewick does not currently pay per-article fees for unsolicited contributions. Contributors receive named authorship, a full author profile page on Gladewick.com, and the professional credibility of publication on a trusted homeowner platform.

Qualification Requirements

Who Meets Our Contributor Standard

To write for Gladewick, you must meet at least one of the following criteria in the specific field you want to write about. These are not aspirational guidelines — they are the actual bar we apply to every author and contributor.

7+ Years of Hands-On Field Experience

You have worked professionally in the specific field you are writing about — not as a writer covering the field, but as a practitioner doing the actual work. A renovation contractor who has managed 200+ projects. A landscape designer who has built outdoor spaces for paying clients. A licensed electrician who has wired residential properties across a career. The experience must be direct and documented.

Formal Degree or Professional Certification

You hold a relevant degree or professional certification from an accredited institution in the specific field you want to write about. Examples include: a Bachelor of Science in Horticulture, an Interior Architecture degree, a Construction Management qualification, a Turfgrass Science programme, an Architectural Technology diploma, or a Building Energy Efficiency certificate. The degree must be directly relevant to the articles you will write.

Trade Licence or Professional Designation

You hold a current or recently active professional licence or trade designation in a regulated field. Examples include: a licensed general contractor’s licence, a licensed electrician’s journeyman or master licence, a licensed plumber’s qualification, an Accredited Staging Professional (ASP) designation, a KonMari Method practitioner certification, or equivalent recognised professional credentials in a relevant trade.

Important: Your credentials must be relevant to the specific articles you want to write. A licensed plumber cannot pitch kitchen cabinet design articles. A visual merchandiser cannot pitch structural renovation guides. We match contributors to their exact area of expertise — if you are not a specialist in what you are pitching, the pitch will be declined regardless of how strong your writing is.

What Contributors Receive

What Gladewick Offers Every Contributing Expert

We do not pay per-article fees for unsolicited contributions. What we offer instead is a publishing environment and professional credibility that many paid platforms cannot match.

Named Authorship on Every Article

Your full name, credential, photo, and location appear prominently on every article you write. This is public, permanent, and indexed by Google.

Dedicated Author Profile Page

Every contributor receives a permanent author profile page at /author/your-name/ listing your full biography, credentials, and all your published articles.

Real Audience & Organic Search Visibility

Your articles are published on a trusted domain, optimised for search, and promoted across Gladewick’s social channels — reaching genuine homeowners searching for exactly what you know.

Publication on a Trusted, Expert-Only Platform

Gladewick’s strict credential requirements mean that your name appears alongside other credentialed professionals — not generalist writers or AI content. The association strengthens your professional credibility.

Content Standards

What We Expect From Every Article

Meeting the qualification bar gets your pitch considered. Meeting these content standards gets your article published. Both are required.

What we require

  • First-hand professional knowledge — every factual claim you make should reflect your own direct experience or be supported by a verifiable primary source
  • Minimum word count of 1,500 words for standard articles; 3,000+ words for pillar and buying guide content
  • Accurate and current information — code references, product specifications, and safety guidance must reflect current standards at time of submission
  • US-centric content — articles must address the US market, including US product availability, building codes, climate zones, and retail options
  • Safety guidance included where relevant — articles covering electrical work, structural projects, chemical applications, or any hazardous task must include appropriate safety warnings and professional referral guidance
  • Clear, accessible language — written for an informed homeowner, not a trade professional. Explain technical terms. Avoid unnecessary jargon.
  • Original content only — content must not have been published elsewhere and must not be AI-generated or substantially AI-assisted

What we will not publish

  • AI-generated or AI-assisted content — we verify this as part of the review process and will decline submissions that show signs of AI generation
  • Thinly researched articles that pad word count with generalities — we expect the kind of depth that comes from direct professional experience
  • Promotional content that favours specific brands, retailers, or products based on commercial relationships rather than merit
  • Content that encourages readers to perform licenced work without appropriate qualification — this includes any content that understates the risks of DIY electrical, structural, or gas work
  • Previously published content or content submitted simultaneously to other publications — Gladewick requires exclusive first publication rights
  • Guest posts that are primarily link-building exercises disguised as editorial contributions — we review all external links in submitted articles and remove those that serve commercial rather than informational purposes
  • Content outside Gladewick’s five core categories — we do not publish general lifestyle, news, financial, travel, or non-home-related content regardless of quality
The Pitch Process

How to Submit a Contributor Pitch

We evaluate contributor pitches in order. Move through these steps and your pitch has the best possible chance of success.

1

Confirm you meet the qualification requirements

Review the qualification requirements in the section above. If you do not have at least 7 years of hands-on professional experience, a formal credential, or a trade licence in the specific field you want to write about, your pitch will be declined at the first review stage. Save both our time and yours by checking this first.

2

Identify a specific topic gap — not a general subject

Strong pitches propose a specific article with a defined angle — not a general subject area. “How to Select Grout for High-Moisture Bathroom Tile Applications” is a pitch. “Something about bathrooms” is not. Research what Gladewick has already covered, identify a gap or a topic we have not addressed from your specific professional perspective, and pitch that specific article.

3

Email hello@gladewick.com with your pitch

Send your pitch to hello@gladewick.com with the subject line “Contributor Inquiry — [Your Field]”. In the body of the email, include: your full name, your professional title and credential, your specific field of expertise, a brief 3–5 sentence professional biography, two or three specific article pitch ideas with a one-paragraph outline for each, and two links to previously published work or professional writing samples if available.

4

We review and respond within 7 business days

Our editorial team reviews every contributor pitch. We will respond within 7 business days with one of three outcomes: a commission for a specific article, a request for a writing sample on the proposed topic, or a respectful decline with the primary reason. We do not provide detailed developmental feedback on declined pitches, but we will always be clear about whether the issue was credentials, topic fit, or writing quality.

5

Submit your article for review

Once a pitch is commissioned, you submit the full article by the agreed deadline. The article is reviewed by a second independent expert from Gladewick’s team — separate from whoever commissioned your pitch. The reviewer evaluates accuracy, safety completeness, practical applicability, and adherence to our editorial standards. You may receive revision requests before the article is approved for publication.

6

Your article is published with full attribution

On approval, your article is published with your full name, credential summary, location, and profile photo prominently displayed. Your author profile page is created or updated to include the new article. The article is promoted across Gladewick’s social channels. You are notified when the article goes live and provided with the URL.

Common Questions

Contributor FAQ

Answers to the questions we receive most often from potential contributors.

Gladewick does not currently pay per-article fees for unsolicited contributions from new contributors. What we offer is named authorship on a trusted, expert-only platform — a permanent byline, a dedicated author profile page, and real audience reach for your professional expertise. For contributors who build a track record with us and consistently meet our editorial standards, paid contributor arrangements may be discussed. Enquire at hello@gladewick.com if you have questions about this.

Your author profile page may include links to your professional website, LinkedIn, and relevant professional profiles. Within the body of articles, we permit links to your own content only where those links are genuinely the best available resource for the reader — not as routine self-promotion. Links to personal websites, consulting services, or commercial offerings within article bodies are generally removed during the editing process. If you have a specific situation you want to discuss, include it in your initial pitch email.

Gladewick requires exclusive first publication rights. Once an article is published on Gladewick.com, it cannot be republished in identical or substantially similar form on your website or any other platform. You may share the article URL on your own channels, reference it as a publication credit, and link to it freely. If you want to write a related but distinct piece for your own platform after Gladewick publication, that is acceptable provided the content is not a copy or near-copy of the Gladewick article.

Yes — all submitted articles are edited for clarity, structure, and adherence to Gladewick’s editorial standards. All edits are shown to the contributing author before publication, and you have the opportunity to review and respond to editorial changes. However, Gladewick’s editorial team makes the final decision on article structure, formatting, and the removal of links or commercial references. If an article undergoes significant revision, it is reviewed by an independent expert again before the revised version is published.

No — not as an author. Gladewick’s authorship model requires the person who writes the article to be a hands-on professional in the subject matter they are covering. Professional writers without direct field credentials are not eligible to write bylined articles for Gladewick, even in collaboration with a specialist. The reason is straightforward: our credibility with readers and with Google depends on every author being genuinely qualified in what they write about. If you are a writer with professional credentials in a relevant field (for example, a writer who is also a licensed electrician), then you are welcome to pitch using those credentials.

Once a commissioned article is submitted, our editorial review typically takes 5–10 business days. This includes the initial editorial read, the independent expert review, and any back-and-forth on revision requests. If the article requires significant revision, the timeline may extend. We will keep you informed of progress and notify you as soon as the article is approved for publication. We do not rush the review process — accuracy and thoroughness take priority over speed.
